FAQs

What does Shouk mean?

Shouk is the Hebrew word for market, like the open-air fresh markets that inspire our food and energy.

What does plant-based mean?

It means not using any animal products or by-products in our food. Instead, we only use fresh vegetables, grains, legumes, and nuts and seeds.

If you only use plants, where does the protein come from?

Here’s a secret: plants are full of proteins! Cauliflower, mushroom, beans, and tahina, to name just a few of our ingredients, all contain lots of it. Our pitas and bowls combine veggies, legumes, and grains to create a well-balanced meal. Did you know that cows and pigs also get their protein from plants? We just go straight to the source!

Are you certified Kosher or Halal?

Yes! We’re certified Kosher under the supervision of DC Kosher. Since we don’t serve meat, we’re also Halal!

Can your food be made gluten free?

Yes! Most of our food is or can be gluten free. Check out our menu for details.

Can I order online?

Absolutely! You can do it on our website or with our app. Make sure to sign up for our rewards program while you’re at it.

Can I change or cancel an online order?

Our stores receive your order and get to work right away, so we’re unable to change or cancel an order once it’s been placed. If you weren’t able to pick up your order for any reason, reply to your confirmation email & we’ll get it sorted out.

Do you deliver?

Yes! You we deliver through UberEats, Doordash, and Caviar. Please look us up on their apps.

How do I indicate that I have an allergy?

If you are dining in person, please notify a team member that you have an allergy and a manager will prepare your meal with extra care.

When placing an order online, we do not currently have a way to notify our team of allergies. Our online allergen chart can help guide your ordering experience, but this does not guarantee your order will be allergen free.

For this reason, if you have an allergy, we want to equip you with transparent information so you can make a choice that is right for you:

At Shouk we use some major allergens including tree nuts, wheat, sesame, and soy in our kitchens. Due to this, we cannot guarantee that our food is completely free of any allergen. Therefore, if you have an allergy, you may be at risk of an allergic reaction. Even if you order foods that you are not allergic to, individual foods may come in contact with one another during preparation which is not reflected on our allergy chart. Although efforts are made to avoid cross-contact of allergens, Shouk does not guarantee that cross-contact with allergens will not occur.

Do you offer gift cards?

Yes, we do. Our gift cards are all digital and you can find them right here on our website.
